Visitors to our garden!

Our flowering gum tree is just coming into full flower and haven't we been blessed. Little visitors from the wild, beautiful little parrots come to sample the nectar in the blossoms. We are awoken early every morning by the chatter of these lovely little birds. Not easy to see amongst the green foliage and the red blossoms so you will have to play 'hunt the parrot' to see them. they are mostly green with a little bit of yellow under their wings and a little red patch on the side of their heads so they blend in really well with the  tree. Look carefully and I think you will find them!! :))

                                             Having a  look around
Safe to have a sip of nectar.
A bit of upside down work here.
                                             A good view.

In Our Vegi Patch Today!

Just had to take this pic of our vegetable patch, can't get over the size of the pumpkin leaves, they seem to be taking over everything else, even the sweet corn which is reaching for the sky. And our poor tomatoes are in there somewhere, not to mention the peas and beans. Oh well, I guess I would be complaining if non of them had grown but I think we will have pumpkins coming out of our ears for the next twelve months. Lol... Unlike most vegi patches, ours is at the front of the house, it's the only free space we have, our backyard is taken up with orchid houses and where we have our bbq area.

Lani's Hat!

Spent a couple of hours today on Lani's hat, I couldn't find a pattern that I liked so I designed my own pattern, just a simple design and here it  is!
                                                         On the way
                                                         Nearly there.
                                                         A little flower

                                            The finished hat.

Long time WIP Finished!

At long last I have finished a work in progress so I guess that means it is no longer a WIP Lol... I don't know why I didn't finish this off well before now, I only had to finish off the neckline and thread the ribbons through. Not such a difficult task one would think. Well.. At least she is finished now, so here she is...  TA Da! She is made of celluloid and was made in the thirties I think? Anyone know the exact year  these dolls were made? Shame she doesn't have her original clothes but at least she is decently covered now Lol..

                                                      Isn't she lovely??

An Exciting Delivery!!

So excited when the postal van arrived today. Yay...  My cotton shipment arrived from Bendigo Woollen Mills. 4 ply, soft and really gorgeous colour range. It's so nice! Lovely colours and works up well. What more could you ask. After showing it of to my BFF and making her absolutely GREEN with jealousy, I couldn't wait to make a start on something and try it out so I am making a pink cotton sun hat for our 3 year old grandaughter Lani.

                                                          Gorgeous colours...

                                                         Made a start...

Potato Bake!

I made this potato bake on new years eve to share with our friends at dinner. First time I have made it and I must admit, I forgot to layer the bacon before I microwaved it but I have made it since for us the way I have written it and it was just that much nicer. It's a very simple and tasty recipe.

2-4 potatoes thinly sliced and washed
1 cup grated cheese
1 sliced onion
sliced bacon
Enough sour cream to keep moist while cooking. Can use normal cream

Layer the potatoes, onions and bacon, cook in microwave for 10 mins.
add the cream and top with grated cheese.
Bake at 180 degs until the potatoes are soft and the top is golden. Enjoy!
I forgot to add, this bake can be cooked in the microwave alone, cover with glad wrap (plastic food wrap) and cook for a further 10 mins in the microwave after you have added the cream and cheese.I use the oven because I like the cheese golden brown.

2 New Squares!

I found a really pretty crochet pattern for a square on
'One Crochet Day At A Time' called 'Flower Love in 2D', I loved it but I could not follow the pattern as there seems to be a row missing so I frogged it and ended up with something similar but different at the same time. I have made one full size and the other which is different again is not finished yet. Anyway here they are and I would love to hear your opinion on them and then maybe I could write the pattern out and put it in my patterns page.
